Bosch CCS180B Cordless Circular Saw Review
The Bosch CCS180B cordless circular saw is a well-designed, high-quality 6-1/2″ cordless circular built from high-quality components to withstand years of abuse. Powered by an 18V lithium-ion battery, the 6-1/2″ blade is able to cut through 2x material, even at full depth of cut. An impressive full 50-degree bevel allows you to handle a wider variety of different applications, including some you simply cannot do with most circular saws on the market today.
The CCS180B is a relatively new model, and is packed with the best technology available today. The lithium-ion power provides a lot more punch than traditional NiCd battery packs, and they are also lighter and last longer. The added power means higher blade speeds and even more important, the low-end torque that is missing from so many cordless circular saws. Bosch also included heavy-duty aluminum upper and foot guards to help the saw withstand years of rigorous work.
Rather than force you into buying a whole package deal, you can get the Bosch CCS180B cordless circular saw as a bare-tool. That means you literally get just the tool – that means no batteries, chargers, cases, and other stuff you probably don’t need, since it works with just about any 18V Bosch battery pack out there. This allows you to save money and space and get the most for your dollar.
Bosch CS5 Left-Blade Review
One of the most noticeable features of the Bosch CS5, is the left-side blade location. This makes it much easier to see what you’re doing for right handed use. While the Bosch CS5 is advertised as being a lightweight circular saw, it really depends on what you compare it to. Most other options in the same price range use a 12 amp motor, while the Bosch CS5 uses a 15 amp motor (which also means a bigger base plate). The bigger motor adds to the weight, but also increases the power significantly. That bigger 15 amp motor packs a serious punch. Since most of the similarly priced saws uses a smaller, and therefore lighter motor, the Bosch CS5 weighs a bit more than most. However, compared to other 15 amp circular saws (which generally cost much more), the CS5 is on the lighter side of things. Since the motor reaches 6,200 rpm, it is important to use high quality blades with the CS5.
The Bosch CS5 is pretty typical as far as features go. The blade is secured with a standard arbor, requiring a tool to change blades. An anti-rotation feature locks the spindle in place making blade tightening and changing much easier. While there is no safety lock on the trigger, the grip on the handle is divided, thus separating the trigger from the rest of the handle.
The only potential downsides of the Bosch CS5 circular saw, is the minor kick-back when turned on, and the amount of time it takes for the blade to stop spinning once turned off. While these may take a bit of getting used to, they are to be expected with high-power motor, and the added strength of versatility far outweighs the kick back and spin-down time.
While the Bosch CS5 is not covered in trendy add-ons such as laser-guides, they focused on what really matters: building a well designed, durable tool that will last through years of wear and tear. All in all, the Bosch CS5 is a powerful saw with the standard features you expect from a circular saw in this class, with the addition of a left-side blade location. Considering the quality, durability, usefulness and price of the Bosch CS5, I think it’s a worthy addition to any tool collection.

It is powerful, balanced, easy to use and accurate, handling most cutting jobs with ease.
The Makita 5007MG is also exceptionally versatile. It can handle an impressively large range of cutting tasks easily, and accurately. Combine that with high quality magnesium components and Makita’s infamous quality craftsmanship, and you can see why the Makita 5007MG Magnesium is one of the best circular saws available.
The Makita 5007MG Magnesium circular saw features an industrial strength Makita-built 15 AMP motor that spins up to 5,800 RPM’s. The motor uses a variety of lightweight and well-balanced magnesium parts to keep the overall weight of the tool down while increasing durability and performance at the same time. This also allows for a large cutting capacity of 2-1/2” at 90° with a maximum bevel of up to 56°, plus positive stops at 45° and 22.5° for easy and quick back-and-forth changes.
Rather than having a different saw for each type of job, you can simply keep the 5007MG around to handle all your circular saw needs. The Makita 5007MG was engineered for a wide variety of jobs, such as: ripping particle board, plywood, OSB and high density structural panels, framing walls, roofs and floors with all types of dimensional and engineered lumber like PSL, LVL, headers, microlams, and I-Joists, plunge and bevel cutting, masonry and metal cutting and more. Makita has truly built an amazing all-around circular saw capable of handling virtually any job you can throw at it.
While many of the competitors offerings come with a generic or lower quality blade, the Makita 5007MG Magnesium comes with a 7-1/4” Makita Premium Ultra-Coated Framing Blade with Advance Tooth Design. The Advance Tooth Design has an “M” shape featuring a two-pointed tip and 10° bevel faces, greatly improving cutting performance while providing a more accurate and quicker cut. Carbine tips ensure the blade can stand up to the toughest cuts, like wood with nails embedded in it. In addition, the blade is Ultra-Coated to help reduce pitch and heat build up for smoother, faster cutting. Makita also adds strategically positioned vents to draw heat away from the blade and motor, furthering increasing performance and longevity. On-tool wrench storage makes blade changes fast and convenient.
The use of high quality lightweight magnesium components keeps the overall tool weight to just 10.1 pounds, while maintaining maximum durability. While there are other circular saws with a similar weight, many of them do not come close to the strength and durability of the Makita 5007MG Magnesium, which has proven itself to be work-site tough. Certain details illustrate how much thought and planning went into the design, such as increased space between the blade case and rear handle to make it easier to use for people wearing work gloves.
There is also extra space added between the housing and the blade to offer a better view of the measurement scale and blade while operating the saw. The rubberized ergonomic handles and one-handed levers minimize fatigue and maximize efficiency for the operator. The Makita MG5007 also has two LED lights and ducting to blog dust away from your workspace, making it much easier to see what you are doing.

In addition to efficiency, accuracy is of very high importance as well. It doesn’t matter how fast you can work if you don’t do the job right. Fortunately, Porter-Cable has put some thought into this as well, and included a laser guide and kerf cut indicator as well. The laser guide aligns the blade to the cut line with incredible accuracy, and the kerf cut indicator aligns to the blade to the indicator to make sure everything is exactly where it needs to be.
For years, Porter-Cable has been known for building high quality power tools that last through years of use and abuse, and that is even more true now than ever before. The PC15CSLK uses ball bearing construction to ensure everything glides smoothly, drastically increasing the efficiency and durability. The included hard shell case ensures nothing will happen to your precious circular saw while you are away from the job.
Nothing is more annoying than having to stop in the middle of a project to trade one circular saw for another, simply because the one you’re using can’t handle every aspect of the job. This leads to a whole collection of specialized tools rather than having one solid circular saw that can tackle all of your projects. The Porter-Cable PC15CSLK is able to handle most jobs with ease other than large industrial construction projects. With an easy depth adjustment and impressive cutting angles, it has no trouble getting through most projects. The spindle lock allows for quick blade changes if you are continuously cutting different materials, so you can still use one tool to handle each part of the project.
