The Dyson DC23 Animal vacuum cleaner is one of Dyson’s most popular bagless canister vacuums for home owners who have pets. It features Dyson’s patented Level 3 Root Cyclone technology which spins the air creating centrifugal force which separates the dirt and redirects it into the collection bin. This ensures the vacuum never clogs and the suction never decreases while vacuuming. The Dyson DC23 is also designed with pet hair in mind and includes a small turbine head to reach tight spaces and make cleaning stairs easier.
The brush bar which is air powered is perfect for deep cleaner rugs and carpet with medium or short pile. You can also turn the brush bar off when cleaning hard flooring surfaces. Also included is an articulating hardwood floor tool that is very easy to maneuver into hard to reach places and tight gaps. The Dyson DC23 Animal uses a washable Hepa filter which is certified as allergy and asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

Dyson DC23 Animal Vacuum Cleaner Reviews
The Dyson DC23 Animal is a high end canister style vacuum targeted to people with pets. We did find mixed reviews for this vacuum but the majority of people were happy with their purchase decision.
On the positive side everyone agreed how amazing the suction power is on the DC23. It picks up cat, dog, and rabbit hair like magic and doesn’t experience any suction loss even when the dirt collecting canister is full. Lots of owners also commented how awesome the hardwood floor tool is and how easy it is to maneuver because of the articulating connection between the hose and handle. The vacuum cleans wall edges unbelievably well and has a low enough profile that it fits into hard to reach places and under furniture without any problems. The vacuum is lightweight making it easy to carry up and down stairs and it is small enough to rest the canister on a stair while vacuuming. The powered head is also reported to work great even though it is powered by the suction of the vacuum. Parts can be easily cleaned, the cord is long enough to clean several rooms without changing outlets and it takes up very little storage space. It also comes with a fantastic 5 year parts and labor warranty.A few comments from happy customers include “It sucked up so much animal hair I felt like I was in one of those vacuum commercials” as well as ” it has the most powerful suction of any vacuum I have ever used”
On the negative side people complained how small the dirt container is and how messy it is to empty. This is a common complaint about bagless vacuums and some people recommend taking the vacuum outside to empty it so you don’t get dust and dirt everywhere. One owner solved this problem by putting a garbage bag under the dirt container before removing it to catch any dust that may fall out. A few people mentioned it can be difficult to maneuver the canister and sometimes it tilts up on one wheel instead of following you. Others didn’t like the fact you can’t store all the tools on the machine and said it takes up too big of a footprint when storing it even though it is a canister. The on/off switch is also on the canister instead of the handle which isn’t as convenient and a few owners just weren’t satisfied with the cleaning performance on carpets. There was also a report of the plastic tubing breaking on one vacuum but the Dyson customer service is reported to be excellent and they replaced it right away.
Our opinion is this vacuum would be a great choice if you are looking for a high quality, lightweight canister style vacuum cleaner for cleaning pet hair and have a large portion of hard surface flooring with some carpeted rooms. If you a lot of carpet flooring a vacuum with a motor powered head may be a better option as there were a few people who didn’t think the carpet cleaning performance was worth the high cost of the Dyson DC23 vacuum. You could always try it out for yourself as others said it cleaned carpet great and always return it if you are not satisfied.
